Viva Las Vegas

We went to Vegas for the first time in February. It’s never really been a place that was on our bucket list. We are not gamblers! Some of our family was going and the price was so amazing that we couldn’t pass it up. Let me tell you, it’s not just a place for gambling, although there is plenty of that. There is so much more to do.

Let’s start with an obvious one: Hotel hopping of course! For first-timers, this is obligatory. Each hotel is a world of its own with lots of shops, restaurants, shows, and décor and themes. The Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan, The Venetian, New York New York, Paris, Flamingo to name just a few. After all, the third thing Las Vegas is known for is its hotels’ glitz!

The New York New York has a roller coaster over the hotel and across the Las Vegas skyline. Some of our crew did this, but not me.

The Bellagio has the beautiful fountains that go off every 15 minutes to the beat of a song. My favorite was the Star Spangled Banner. WOW! ( video at bottom)

The Paris has the beautiful Eiffel Tower.

The Observation Wheel

At more than 550 feet tall, the High Roller in Las Vegas is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. Hop on it for a breath-taking view of the strip and the surrounding desert. I highly recommend taking the ride at sunset for a stunning view.

The STRATOSPHERE

Great views or get shot over the edge and dangle at an eye-watering 866 feet above ground, or be prepared to be shot 160 feet in the air as you overlook the strip. Nevertheless, if you dare, you will be rewarded with an unbelievable view of the city.

THE LINQ PROMENADE

Nested between The LINQ and Flamingo hotel, the promenade offers over 40 shops and restaurants, the High Roller and zip lining across the promenade, which we did. They have an In-Out-Burger, Hell’s Kitchen, just to name a few. I love the Linq Promenade, it’s awesome.

If you are planning to use UBER in Las Vegas, there are designated areas for pick-ups and drop-offs so find the nearest pick-up location (hotel signs or on the UBER app) before you get an UBER.

There are a lot places near by to visit. I suggest renting a car and enjoy at your own pace.

Although we didn’t have a chance to go, the Hover Dam is just 35 miles South East of Vegas. Located on the west side of Las Vegas, is Red Rock Canyon and only 20 minutes away. The Park offers a scenic drive to its visitors, and it’s the perfect place for a quick city-escape.

We went during Covid and the buffets were shut down but I hear they are something you must try. The shows were shut down. Restaurants were open but you had to have a reservation. Mask were required.

FREMONT STREET

This area is home to some of the oldest hotels in Vegas, such as The Golden Gate and The Golden Nugget. It’s the old “original” part of Vegas.

Fremont Street has a canopy over the pedestrianised area, a zip line that runs down the street, and a light show by night.

With outdoor bars and live music stages along the street. This is definitely a place to people watch.

To my surprise it is a nice, clean city. I love the lights at night. I’ve always had a picture of Vegas in my mind but it was something totally different than I experienced. It is a place I would like to go back. I feel the first time you go to any place, it’s getting to know it and the next you know what to expect and how to allot your time and enjoy more things.
